When Your Top Button is Done up Right, All The Others Will Align
LISTEN
Inviting God into The Everyday
A wonderful illustration which is imprinted on my mind when it comes to my relationship with God is that of shirt buttons: when your top button is done up correctly all the other buttons will naturally align. Just looking at this image is giving me ‘the ick’ (I think my undiagnosed OCD is kicking in), it’s all mismatched, off balance and generally out of kilter.
When we take care with the top button every other aspect makes sense, we have put first things first, Jesus himself described it as the thing most needful [Luke 10:42].
Inviting God into the warp and woof of the fabric of our lives is a non-negotiable if we’re to weave a pattern of beauty that will not only make sense but can withstand the demands put on.
Our trouble can be that we find it hard to make time for this. This can be for a variety of reasons but coming to understand the joy, the beauty, the necessity of making habitual space to be ‘with God’ is the anchoring super power that will not only help us navigate the challenges of life but will form the very image of Christ in our lives.
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.
Pslam 23:1-3
