Funny, I also have this goal for the new year to not spend. I decided this a couple of days ago. Great minds think alike or do we happen to be kindred spirits?
And a happy New Year to you too, Stephanie, I have missed seeing your lovely face in our book chats. I have just watched the last episode and oh my goodness
I've missed seeing you, too! I would be happy to join a Zoom anytime! My husband and I are about to start season 6...I can only imagine what we're in for!
Jacqui, you are so inspiring and delightful! For drawing nearer to Jesus AND understanding yourself better, I recommend a book by Summer Joy Gross, The Emmanuel Promise. It has been so enlightening for me!
Perhaps it will help you too.
Thank you for the treasures in this post! Happy New Year!

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.
You caught my interest when you mentioned Irina Ratushinskaya. I read her book Grey is the Color of Hope and it was amazing! I have a gazillion quotes I copied down from it, evidence of the atrocities that were committed against her and others in the Soviet gulags. Yet the way they held onto hope, and sought out beauty in the stark environment in which they found themselves was so inspiring!
I saw her book when I was researching her, it sounds like I need to put this on my reading list, thank you. It's very sobering and encouraging to read such women and the way they responded to light, it can put courage into our own struggles - and perspective!
Yes! That is why I am drawn to books about those who've survived Soviet Gulags, the Holocaust and other such horrific, tragic events. I can't say I enjoy them (that would be morbid), but I am so inspired by their courage, by their ability to find beauty, by the resilience of the human spirit, and how God can bring good out of these evil situations. I would totally recommend her book.
What a lovely Beagle letter, it brightens my day! In the Netherlands it is grey and rainy for weeks now so I can use some brightness... "I’ll share the books I’m reading for Uni study if you’re interested and if anyone ever wants to hop on a Zoom chat etc for an informal book club I’d love that..." I would love that very much! Your booklist last year with fiction books brought me so much joy. Even if it is not possible to do a regular Zoom meeting about fiction I am very interested in good titles of (English) fiction you recommend.

Definitely kindred!
Thank you for another beautiful Beagle, Jacqui. May the coming year be a gentle one. ❤️ BTW, I watch Virgin River, too!
